HLTAAP001 Recognise Healthy Body Systems

This course covers the skills and knowledge required to work with basic information about the human body and to recognise and promote ways to maintain healthy functioning of the body.

Participants will learn about the basic structure and functions of the body systems and associated components, the processes, conditions and resources required by the body to support healthy functioning, protection from infection and active and passive physical activity.

The skills in this course apply to any worker who needs to use and interpret information that includes references to client anatomy and physiology and must be used in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian/New Zealand standards and industry codes of practice.

Some of the topics covered in this course are:

  • basic structure and functions of the body systems and associated components
  • cells, tissues and organs
  • cardiovascular system
  • respiratory system
  • musculo-skeletal system
  • endocrine system
  • digestive system
  • urinary system
  • reproductive system
  • integumentary system
  • lymphatic system
  • nervous system, including sensory systems – eye and ear
  • the special senses – smell, taste, vision, equilibrium and hearing
  • immune system
  • processes, conditions and resources required by the body to support healthy functioning
  • maintenance of body temperature
  • fluid and electrolyte (including PH) balance
  • elimination of wastes from the body
  • maintenance of blood pressure
  • protection from infection
  • physical activity – active and passive
  • healthy lifestyle and wellbeing

Course Delivery

This course can be delivered/assessed in the workplace or at facility organised by the training provider.

Course Duration

Course durations can vary for multiple reasons, so the durations below are the minimum possible amount.

Online with face-to-face assessment Face to Face contact time of at least 30 Mins

Entry Requirements

Participants physically able to work effectively with information about the human body and its healthy functioning manage tasks and manage contingencies in the context of the job role.

Pre-course study: Students may be required to undertake online pre-course work prior to attending the face to face session depending on the course delivery mode.

Online study: Students must have access to a computer, smartphone, tablet or other electronic device with access to the internet to complete the online/ pre-course studies.

Assessment Requirements

Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks.

Certificate Renewal Requirements

This certificate does not require renewal

Assessment Activities

Assessments conducted during face-to-face training session(s) include:

Performance tasks – The assessor must observe the following performance tasks:

  • Name the body systems
  • Name the organs/components
  • Matching body system functions & common conditions/diseases
  • Interrelationships between body systems

Documentation – The student must complete all forms related to the performance tasks

Case study 1 and 2 – The student must use the information presented in the case study and complete all related assessment questions

Theory assessment – A written assessment consisting of multiple-choice and short answer questions. The student must complete all assessment questions.

The location for each course will be dependent on the student requirements.

Unique Student Identifier (USI)

Completing any vocational education course in Australia, it is a requirement for you to obtain and supply a USI. This is obtainable from usi.gov.au If a USI is not supplied and verified with usi.gov.au a certificate cannot be issued to you.

If you are under 18 years of age

It is a requirement that parental/guardian consent is obtained for students under the age of 18 to be able to participate in a course.

Payment Terms
